Fields Hall and Schoenfeldt Hall is a dual residency hall located in the University Village at the University of Portland. The building is 4 stories, and consists of over 110,000 sf. Total occupancy is 324 beds. The design includes three types of rooms: underclass units at 180 sf, upperclass units at 300 sf with attached / shared bathrooms, and apartment units at 1,000 sf which include private kitchens, baths and bedrooms.
The building is designed in a “U” shape to create a courtyard at its main entrance. The upperclass and apartment units face in towards the courtyard while the underclass units line the exterior near the streets. The building consists of a steel structural system, steel decking and concrete floor. The facade includes brick veneer, cmu veneer and stone accents.
The building was awarded the status of LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council after its completion. Some of the design stategies
included green roofs (entry and chapel), regionally sourced materials, low VOC paints and finishes, low flow plumbing fixtures, and a high
efficiency HVAC system which includes an exhaust heat recovery
system, variable flow refrigerant system, and increased air filtration.
