The design for the entrance at Portland State Universities Fariborz
Meseeh Department of Mathematics and Statistics takes its directions from the complex graphical order of algebra. By assigning the existing architectural features of the space as known entities, and creating dependent forces acting between them, the new facade is a re-actional expression of the existing space and the ideas being sought within it. The sub-structure consists of CNC milled 3/4” plywood weaved together and bolted at the existing wall and at its joints. The facade is 10 mil wood veneer mechanically fastened directly to the sub-structure.
